‘SchoolvoorBeeld’

An educational project for groups 7 and 8 of Funderend Onderwijs

Dutch/Papiamentu

We would like to draw your attention to the following: The Blue Bay Sculpture Garden Foundation will start an educational project for education ‘SchoolvoorBeeld’ in collaboration with the Cultuur Kameleon Foundation in September 2024. The project is offered in both Dutch and Papiamentu. We hereby invite school classes from groups 7 and 8 of Funderend Onderwijs to participate.

With this education project, we offer teaching materials that are in line with the core objectives of Artistic Orientation and Orientation on yourself and the World (People and Society, Geography, History, Nature and Technology) established by the Ministry of Education. The lessons also focus on 21st century skills, which involve orientation, research, implementation, evaluation and reflection.

Program

  1. You will receive four digital introductory lessons in advance in which an avatar guides you and your students through the information. You choose at least one lesson to go through with the students.
  2. The class then goes to the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden on the agreed day and is given a tour of the sculpture garden. When registering, you have chosen in advance whether the digital lesson fits in with one of the themes of geography, history, nature or citizenship. Or you’ve covered them all. For example, they learn more about the types of stone used on the island or the local animals depicted. All subjects that fit People Society.
  3. At school: creating a two- or three-dimensional image. On an agreed day, one of the artists from the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden comes to school and the students get to work and make their own sculpture. They conduct research into the materials and techniques to be used and the visual language to be used.
  4. A selection is made from the images taken. In mid-May-June 2025, the exhibition “School VoorBeelden” will be put together in the Curaçao Museum, decorated by the students and officially opened. You will be informed about this at a later stage.

‘SchoolvoorBeeld’

An educational project for secondary education and SBO

Dutch/Papiamentu

‘SchoolvoorBeeld’ is an opportunity for young people to learn more about the island where they grew up through these unique sculptures through the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden. In addition, they also get to work hard themselves. First they go to the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden and get a tour. After this experience, the secondary school students will create their own image, a School Example, under the guidance of their own CAV teacher. In addition to the SBO schools, they can also call on an artist in their class who they can reserve here. Ultimately, we will create an exhibition together in the Curaçao Museum of SchoolvoorBeelden that will be festively opened. Digital items from the exhibition and opening are still being made in a pop-up MediaLab that we share on the internet.

Because we know that secondary and SBO schools, in order to participate in this excursion in the coming school year, must include it in their PTA or PTO. That is why registration now starts via this link

With this education project, we offer the teacher teaching materials that are in line with the core objectives of Artistic Orientation and Orientation on yourself and the World (People and Society, Geography, History, Nature and Technology) established by the Ministry of Education. Our lessons are related to these subjects. The lessons also focus on 21st century skills, which involve orientation, research, implementation, evaluation and reflection.

Program

  1. 4 digital lessons are created, in which an Avatar guides the students through the lesson. These digital lessons serve as preparation for the visit to the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden. The teacher can give one of the four digital lessons, but all four are also possible.
  2. To the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden! The students are picked up by a bus from school at 8 am. The tour lasts until half past nine. The tour guide will wait for the class at the Sculpture Garden. He/She provides the tour. Students can take photos and film. The tour is in line with the digital lessons.
  3. At school: creating a two- or three-dimensional image. They conduct research into the materials and techniques to be used and the visual language to be used.
  4. An image is selected from each class. This can be an image of 1 student or of several students together. That statue will be exhibited in the Curaçao Museum in January 2025.

During a classroom museum visit, a media lesson is offered in which students, for example, make vlogs and podcasts about the exhibition. These media presentations are presented online.

Educational program for upper secondary education students

English/Dutch/Papiamentu

The BlueBay Sculpture Garden Foundation offers a free educational program of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours for upper secondary school students in Curaçao. The students walk a route through the sculpture garden, receive information about the statues they encounter and complete assignments on an answer sheet. The material is available in Dutch or Papiamentu.

Classes can come during school hours or students can also do this route individually as an assignment. For a school visit, please contact Tosca Geneste +599 9 5132255 of the BlueBay Resort in advance, she can plan the school visit with you. BlueBay Resort offers school classes the opportunity to use the bay after the excursion. Completely free but in consultation.

The educational material can be downloaded below. (Other interested parties can of course also take advantage of this). The lesson notes can be downloaded onto a computer, mobile phone or tablet. The Answer Sheet must be printed. Once at the Sculpture Garden, a sculpture route can be walked. Many statues in the Sculpture Garden have assignments and questions. Students can answer these, alone or with each other, on the Answer Sheet. The description states where the works of art are located. The route is easy to follow on foot.

Many works have two symbols. Both symbols refer to enrichment substance. Search assignments can be made at school or at home using the internet, delving deeper into an artist. The other assignments, City Assignments, belong to works of art by the artist in question that can be found elsewhere on the island.
