In 2005 Rien Te Hennepe (1950) started teaching himself to sculpt after becoming fascinated by the shapes and structures of the stones that originated from the Tafelberg. His work has since been shown at various exhibitions in Suriname and Curaçao, of which the 2010 Antepasado di Futuro exhibition in the Curaçao Museum was certainly not the least. With a love that is both visible and palpable, Te Hennepe focuses on the production of small, as well as large, monumental sculptures, where figures rise up from the stone.
