18.6 Marlies Schoenmakers

Structure

2011
glazed stoneware
50 x 10 x 39 cm

Marlies Schoenmakers (1961) is an experienced ceramist, who has lived in Curaçao for 23 years and has exhibited continuously since 1998. She rightfully considered the magnificent 2016 exhibition at Galerie Landhuis Bloemhof, with Marcel van Duijneveldt, her crowning glory. The piece Structure has been hung in the sculpture garden, a gift of Jan Gulmans. The object was made in 2011 from glazed stoneware and consists of 5 separate parts that have been attached to a plate. Schoenmakers distinguishes herself from other ceramists by maintaining a balanced combination of line, shape and color in her work, but her monochrome work, such as her Möbius and swirling figures, is also extremely exciting. Structure is no exception.
