The bearer is the stylized symbol of the Curaçaoan woman who was in charge of carrying products from the land and sea to market, but also shows the power of the woman who watches over her family. The bearer was shown at an exhibition in 1991 at plantation house Knip. Flowers of the flamboyant were spread out in the bowl on the woman’s head. Sling has made additional ceramic sculptures in which the function of bearing has been expressed.
