In 1986 Mauricia (1961) studied at the Escuela de Artes Plasticas Cristobal Rojas in Venezuela and then spent 3 years at the Universidad de los Andes in Merida, obtaining a degree in Artes Plastica for painting and sculpture. Since 1991 he has worked in Curaçao, with the aim of raising awareness for the arts. Thus he painted the back wall of the Sea-Aquarium Curaçao. Ashley is the initiator of the longest painting in the world (2013) worked on by many when canvas was laid on the road, connecting the roundabout at the bus station in Otrobanda to the roundabout at Parasasa. Now cut into pieces and rolled up, this treasure is stored in his studio in the Boogjes. Ashley’s coral figures are famous. A gift from Margreet Joubert, his two flamingos have settled in the Sculpture Garden.
