In contrast to the large sculpture Redu by Rien te Hennepe (1950), his Musika di Laman is an abstract work of art that, as the title says, makes music. By stroking the stone with a coral rod, tones can be elicited from high to low. For more than ten years, Te Hennepe has been looking for Table Mountain stones that produce sound. He says centuries and centuries ago, primitive peoples already used sound stones, so-called ‘rock gongs’ to communicate and perform rituals. This statue was also donated by the Gulmans family.
